Scotland is home to one of the largest life sciences sectors in Europe, and it is set to grow to £8 billion by 2025 with over 37,000 people currently employed in over 700 Scottish organisations. As it stands 34% of Scottish Business Enterprise Research and Development (BERD) spending goes towards the Life Sciences industry in Scotland, and the speed at which it is growing makes it a very exciting industry to be involved with.

CB Technology has been involved in manufacturing electronics for use in MedTech devices as well as high level assembly for over 10 years. We work with our customers from the early stages of new product development, throughout the full manufacturing process and the end of life management process.

What we do
Our customers include businesses involved in medical device development, prosthetic production and lab technology for life sciences, so reliability, accuracy and analytically-driven innovations and solutions are essential aspects of our role in creating the end products.

Technology is closely intertwined with healthcare, and supporting people in their daily lives, so it is important that the needs of the end users are prioritised. The end users may be a patient, a nurse or even someone who has had no previous medical experience, so it is important that the functionality balances with the quality of the components to create a product that lasts. For medical devices it is important to manufacture prototypes and to test for weakness and potential issues is particularly important

Compliance and traceability are the cornerstones of manufacturing within the medical industry. CB Technology's manufacturing systems and processes have been developed to deliver consistent, repeatable and fully traceable products in line with the medical sector requirements. We have experience of creating customer specific bespoke products, which encourages us to learn more about the needs of the end user.

Keeping manufacturing local to Scotland has meant that we are able to build relationships and retain business within the UK. This benefits our UK customers as they have more control over the production and distribution of their products, and also allows better communication to ensure that any urgent questions or requests can be addressed as soon as possible. CB Technology nurtures strong relationships with our customers throughout manufacturing and to maturity.

Partnerships
The medical technology industry in Scotland has been experiencing steady growth, between 2009 and 2015, there have been over 170 life sciences startups founded in Scotland. The growth the MedTech industry is experiencing presents an exciting opportunity to increase the influence that Scotland, and the rest of the UK, has on medical, and health industries across the globe.

Engaging with a range of enterprises within the medical field is key to forming lasting collaborations, and encouraging the upscaling of both manufacturing and the individual skills of the Scottish workforce in regards to MedTech and Life Sciences. CB Technology has strong relationships with supply bases, so we are able to collaborate closely with potential suppliers to critique designs and look at it from a design-for-manufacturing point of view. Opportunities to work with other businesses are significant in nurturing growth in the MedTech industry. CB Technology encourages and welcomes creative ideas and improvements of existing technology from both newcomers and experienced professionals. We are particularly proud of previous partnerships that have revolutionised how we execute cell culture manufacturing by controlling and reducing damage to cells, therefore increasing the yield and improving the precision and efficiency of the process.

The value that Scottish manufacturers directly have on healthcare not only applies to our customers, but also to our family, coworkers and ourselves. Being actively involved in and taking care of Scotland and beyond, is one of our key missions as a manufacturer, and we are excited to welcome new developments over the coming years. CB Technology adds value to its customers’ businesses, as we spend time working with our customers to solve issues, which is particularly important in the Life Science and MedTech industry.
